Alison Hine: Textile/Mixed Media Artist

Stables Unit 2

Alison Hine

As a qualified textile teacher I have covered many aspects of creative textiles. Having taught a variety of workshops I am often asked where I get my ideas from. I simply say by looking around me. I am fascinated by wonderful patterns, shapes, colours and texture in everything that surrounds us.

The most mundane objects can create the inspiration for my work. Looking beyond the derelict buildings, crumbled walls with moss and rusty railings, rich colours, shapes and textures emerge, which can be the starting point for many pieces of work.
Patterns on buildings new and old, shapes on doors, the colour of objects after years of weathering are often not appreciated for their hidden beauty or just not noticed.

In my work I try to highlight through multi media material the beauty of all that surrounds us, whether it be an instant attraction or the surface has to be scratched.
